Brookings-Harbor is the only spot in the continental United States that was bombed by a foreign power(Japan) in World War II. Today the site is accessed from the Bombsite Trail, located about 10 miles inland from Brookings on South Bank Road. There is a monument commemorating the event at the bombsite.
